Ionic liquids (ILs), compounds composed entirely of ions and liquid per definition below 100°C and have good conductivity, large electrochemical, thermal and chemical stability, combined with negligible vapor pressure. With thousands of anions and cations to combine from, one can select the right ones for the desired application, something we have specialized ourselves in since 2003.
With such properties, ILs are used in the fields of synthesis, catalysis and analytics, electrochemistry, CO2-absorption, biomass conversion, as additives in polymers and graphene production and dispersion.
Carbon allotropes like fullerenes, CNTs and graphene, provide extraordinary electronic, thermal and mechanical properties, but have safety issues because of their small size. For many applications stable, easy-to-handle and safe dispersions are of great importance. This can be easily achieved with the help of ILs. We can prepare such dispersions of pristine carbon-NPs in different solvents without any previous chemical modification.
We will demonstrate that with our technology, both various CNTs and graphene can easily be de-agglomerated and dispersed in organic solvents and water.
