nano tech 2011 Show Report

46,502 Visitors, 638Exhibitors (including 190 overseas exhibitors), 754Booths

“nano tech International Nanotechnology Exhibition and Conference 2011”, marked its 10th anniversary this year, was held as the world’s largest nanotechnology event. It highlighted cutting-edge advances in nanotechnology and related products from the global market.

nano tech 2011 was held with its 3rd year in the theme of “Green Nanotechnology - Sustainability with every nano meter”, focusing on environmental nanotechnology, the technology such as automotive related second battery and fuel cell, LED lighting which increased attention after the East Japan Earthquake, smart grid based new energy technology, and soil/water purification systems. All themes drew vitisots' high attention.

As the 10 years special program, the exhibition booth was set up to show nanotechnology application products in the theme of "Towards the next innovation with nanotechnology". Also Nanotechnology chronological table was displayed in the exhibition hall and distributed to all visitors. The table shows the degree of contribution of Japanese researchers not only to nanotechnology but to all the field of science and technology.

nano tech 2011 was hosted concurrently with eight other exhibitions: Nano Bio 2011,  InterAqua 2011, ASTEC2011, METEC’11, Printable Electronics 2011, Convertech JAPAN 2011, neo functional material 2011, Eco Cell Battery Expo 2011, which contributed the development of new customers for exhibitors.

The secretariat has delivered the notice of result to awardees during the exhibition, and held the award ceremony on the last day.

nano tech Awards 2011

◆ GRAND AWARD ◆

nano tech Grand Award Winner: FUJIFILM Corporation

The committee commended the company’s development of outstanding material solutions contributing to “Ambient” “Emotion” and “Wellness”.

Based on its competence in photographic technology built over many years, the company advances technologies as ITO–replacing transparent conductive materials, new coating concepts, honeycomb films for regenerative medicine and anti-aging cosmetics.

Category Awards

Materials

INOAC Technical Center Co., Ltd.

INOAC Technical Center highlighted various applications for carbon nanotube coatings during the exhibition. The committee commended the effective utilization of technologies mastered by the company, like production processes for urethane foam and high-functional elastomers as well as surface processing technology.

IT & Electronics

Toshiba Corporation

Toshiba takes advantage of its comprehensive expertise as an IT & Electronics company to develop outstanding Green nano devices like the 64 gigabit large capacity flash memory, nano-wire transistors combining high functionality and ultra-low power consumption or the worlds first current-detection DNA chip.

Biotechnology

Toray Industries, Inc.

Toray Industries developed a new type protein analysis chip enabling blood cell separation, enzyme immunoassay( EIA) detection and high-performance liquid chromatography function on one single chip. Nanotechnologies as microbeads, surface processing technology and lab-on-a-chip technologies have been used to realize this development.

Specialized in clinical diagnosis and instruments, Toray Industries is developing diagnostic systems, which let expect practical applications in the near future.

Nano Fabrication Technology

HOLON CO., LTD.

The committee commends the development of the world’s first electron microscope for the examination and measurement of micro patterns in the surface of roller molds. Such high quality micro patterned rollers enable high throughput print processes for flexible electronic parts.

Evaluation and Measurement

Bruker AXS K.K.

Bruker AXS developed a groundbreaking atomic force microscope that provides highresolution imaging of the geometry of a sample surface together with high-speed nanoscale mapping of characteristics like modulus of elasticity and adsorption force.
The committee commended the potential of this development for coming applications.

GreenGreen Nanotechnology
National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science & Technology (AIST)

AIST showed exhibits related to the topic of “large surface electronics” such as large surface sensors, smart luminescence sheets and carbon nanotube sheets. Showing tangible examples for Green Nanotechnology, the theme of the exhibition, the committee commended the focus on practical implementations for the technologies.

Special Award

Spain Area

Twelve organizations, including seven private companies and national research institutions, exhibited in the Area. Providing applications as for graphene, already four organizations are present in the Japanese market with subsidiaries or representatives. The committee commended the activity of bringing state of the art nanotechnology developed in Spain to Japan and actively promoting its commercialization.

Winner of the NIKKAN KOGYO SHIMBUN Award

Advanced Scientific Technology & Management Research Institute of Kyoto

The research institute is supporting commercialization in nanotechnology by joining the expertise of universities and ompanies of the Kyoto area in the Kyoto Environmental Nanotechnology Cluster, which serves as a center for research in the field of environment and energy. The efforts to advance environmental technology together with around 40 companies were commended by the committee.
